In addition to Card and EFT payments, South African merchants can now get paid via Masterpass. Masterpass is a QR payment method that allows customers to make payments by scanning a QR code from inside their mobile banking application. Masterpass is one of the most popular QR payments providers in South Africa.
When the checkout form loads, the customer can select the option to pay using the Masterpass channel. Customers can simply scan the QR code from within any of the Masterpass-enabled mobile applications, or enter the number displayed at the bottom of the QR code into the app, to complete payment.
Which banks support QR payments with Masterpass?
South African customers using these banks can make payments with Masterpass through either their mobile banking application or a standalone Masterpass application:
- ABSA
- Capitec
- Nedbank
- Standard Bank
- FNB
What is the transaction charge for the Masterpass channel?
The charge per transaction is the same as other payment channels; 2.9% + R1.00 (VAT exclusive).
Can customers make recurring payments with the Masterpass channel?
It's currently not possible for customers to make recurring payments with the Pay with Masterpass payment channel.
Can all Paystack merchants accept payments through the Masterpass channel?
The Masterpass channel is currently available to South African merchants only.
